which included the cost of a new front of £80. It was now built of brick, with fittings of old oak, and a slate roof, and accommodating 200 people.
1884/5 local architect A.B. Deakin was employed to improve and renovate the building and replaced the former frontage with the one we have today, of Grinshill Sandstone, It is described as a three bay, handsome frontage. It was now in line with the other buildings in the street, and enabled more room to be added to the vestry and the Schoolroom above.
The old box pews were taken out in 1904 and replaced with the ones in current use, and in 1914 a new organ was placed in the choir stalls, it is a two manual Connacher, and the cost being met by subscriptions from the congregation. It has served us well until its last tuning when Mr Jones had to repair the bellows, and says we need a new blower, so this is now in hand.
For over a year now we have had builders on boardl and now have a loo for the disabled and a very small kitchen, and have also had several of the pews at the back of the Church removed so we have a ‘Social area’ where can enjoy our coffee breaks and committee meetings, The schoolroom was discovered to have dry rot, so this has had major repairs and is now waiting the painting and finishing off before it will be back in use again.
